I’m the Technology Director for Analytics Masterminds, a Microsoft Data Platform MVP since 2019, and the founder of the UK’s biggest free data conference, DATA:Scotland.
Over my career I’ve worn many hats across the data space; from BI and DBA roles, through to data engineering, architecture and technical leadership. I’ve worked with customers across a wide range of industries, tackling challenges around security, performance, governance, and complex integrations.

Today, my focus is firmly on modern analytics platforms such as Microsoft Fabric and Databricks, where I spend most of my time helping organisations design platforms that are scalable, secure, and provide actual business value in the real world.
Working across so many roles has shaped how I approach analytics today. I care less about perfect diagrams and more about platforms that teams can understand, operate, and evolve over time. Good analytics platforms should make the right thing easy, not add friction through unnecessary complexity.

Alongside my day-to-day role, I’m actively involved in the data community through speaking, organising events such as DATA:Scotland., and mentoring. I strongly believe that the best learning happens when people share what went wrong as openly as what went right.
